The French National Frequencies Agency has installed sensors to measure autonomous exposure in several major French cities in order to monitor changes in exposure with the arrival of 5G. In operation since early March 2020 in Nantes and Marseille, these sensors have been placed close to 5G antennas under test. Other sensors have also been installed since 13 November in Paris and since 8 December 2020 in Bordeaux.
Now it’s Mulhouse’s turn to take part in this pilot scheme, based on the deployment of 3 measurement sensors positioned on street furniture in the heart of the town centre. As for the residents of the first towns to benefit from the Electromagnetic Field Observatory, residents of Mulhouse who wish to do so will have continuous access to all the results measured at www.observatoiredesondes.com.
This system, the result of an R&D project designed and developed by EXEM, is designed to help local authorities provide answers to questions from the general public about their exposure to electromagnetic fields. It is based on the deployment of a network of very low-speed communicating sensors that make the data accessible as and when required (several measurements are taken every day).
In the context of the rapid digital transformation of our society, the EMF Observatory is an impartial and reliable tool for shedding light on the societal debate that pits economic development against environmental and public health concerns.
