The EMF Observatory operational in Bordeaux

At the initiative of the French National Frequencies Agency (ANFR) and in partnership with the City of Bordeaux, EXEM recently installed its first three sensors in the city. As 5G is rolled out nationwide, and before the network is “switched on” in Bordeaux, this “pilot service” will enable measurements to be taken to monitor changes in levels of exposure to electromagnetic fields.

Bordeaux residents will now be able to benefit from the EMF Observatory, with continuous access to all the results measured at www.observatoiredesondes.com. Designed and developed by EXEM, this wave monitoring system is designed to help local authorities provide answers to questions from the general public about their exposure to electromagnetic fields.

It is based on the deployment of a network of very low-speed communicating sensors that make the data accessible as and when required (several measurements are taken every day). Delphine Jamet, deputy mayor of Bordeaux, responsible for general administration, the evaluation of public policies and data strategy, emphasises that this is a transparency tool that responds above all to the concerns of the citizens of Bordeaux, and that relies above all on the responsibility of each individual. “We want to set up this electromagnetic field observatory to be able to compare exposure rates before and after the launch of 5G”.

In the context of the rapid digital transformation of our society, the EMF Observatory is an impartial and reliable tool for shedding light on the societal debate that pits economic development against environmental and public health concerns.
